Jurgen Klopp Suggests Referee Paul Tierney Has Agenda Against Him And Liverpool
Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has suggested that referee Paul Tierney has an agenda against him and his team.
Tierney was in charge at Anfield on Sunday when Liverpool beat Tottenham 4-3 thanks to a 94th-minute winner by Diogo Jota.
Spurs boss Ryan Mason felt that Jota should have been sent off 13 minutes earlier for kicking Oliver Skipp in the head.
Tottenham were also denied a late penalty kick when a VAR review sided with Tierney's on-field call that Ibrahima Konate had not fouled Richarlison.
Despite these decisions both going in his team's favor, Klopp appeared to suggest that he believes Tierney is biased against Liverpool.
Klopp was angry that Tierney had awarded a free-kick against Mo Salah moments before Tottenham's equalizer.
He told Sky Sports: "How he can whistle a foul in the situation up front against Mo Salah when the linesman is directly there and keeps the flag down...
"We have our history with Mr Tierney.
"I really don't know what this man has with us. I really don't know. You always will say that there's nothing and it's not true. It cannot be.
"I have to say, I don't understand. I'm really not sure if it's me because... how he looks at me, I don't understand it.
"I really have no problem with any people, not with him as well. But... again?"
Tierney issued Klopp with a yellow card after the Liverpool manager shouted something in the face of the fourth official while celebrating Jota's goal.
Klopp admitted that the yellow card was deserved but claimed that Tierney said something unacceptable to him when the booking was issued.
He added: "My celebration was unnecessary, which is fair. But what he said to me when he gave me the yellow card is not ok."
In terms of Liverpool's "history" with Tierney, Klopp referenced a game against Tottenham in December 2021.
Andy Robertson was sent off by Tierney in that game after Harry Kane had been lucky to avoid a red card for a poor challenge on the Scot.
