Jurrien Timber looks set to join Arsenal from Ajax in the coming days after the defender's family hosted a leaving party for him.

The 22-year-old center-back was Mikel Arteta's top defensive target this summer and he is expected to complete his move to north London for a transfer fee in the region of £40 million.

Timber has been an Ajax player since 2014 when he joined the club's youth ranks from rivals Feyenoord.

His brother shared a photo via Instagram over the weekend.

It showed a large sign surrounded by balloons. On the sign was a picture of Timber wearing Arsenal's new home kit alongside the words: "Jurrien's Goodbye party! See you in the streets of London."

It is not clear whether the photo of Timber dressed in Arsenal kit had been taken by the London club in preparation for the player's official unveiling, or whether it was created using Photoshop.

But Timber is almost certain to be confirmed as a Gunners player later this month.

He will join fellow summer signing Kai Havertz at the Emirates Stadium, while West Ham United captain Declan Rice is also expected to arrive at Arsenal imminently
