Heavy Rain Forces Tottenham And Leicester To Cancel Pre-Season Game In Thailand
Tottenham Hotspur's friendly game against Leicester City was canceled on Sunday after heavy rain made the pitch at Thailand's Rajamangala Stadium unplayable.
Both teams published their official lineups for the match around an hour before the planned kick-off time of 5pm (local time).
Harry Kane had been due to start for Spurs but the match was eventually called off 40 minutes after it had been due to start.
Stadium staff had tried their best to clear water from the field but the rain continued to fall.
The pitch was so waterlogged in some places that it was impossible to bounce a ball.
A club statement from Tottenham read: "Tonight's friendly against Leicester City has been cancelled due to a waterlogged pitch and adverse weather conditions.
"The event organisers, based on a recommendation from the match officials, deemed the pitch at the Rajamangala National Stadium unplayable and unsafe following heavy rainfall in Bangkok."
A statement from Leicester added: "Taking into account the safety of the players and the overall integrity of the game, the unavoidable decision to cancel the fixture was taken after extensive consideration to those who were in attendance by the event organisers on the recommendation of the match referee.
"Leicester City would like to extend its thanks to all supporters who have followed the Club in Bangkok, and regrets that the game was deemed unsafe to go ahead in circumstances that were beyond the Club's control."
