Lionel Messi finished the 2022/23 Ligue 1 season with more assists than any other player.

The 35-year-old did not add to his tally in Paris Saint-Germain's 3-2 home loss to Clermont on Saturday but still ended the campaign with 16 assists to his name - five more than Neymar, who was second on the list with 11.

Messi made 32 league appearances for Paris Saint-Germain this season and scored 16 goals himself in addition to topping the rankings for assists.

The former Barcelona star therefore averaged exactly one goal or assist for game.

Meanwhile, PSG teammate Kylian Mbappe won the Golden Boot with 29 goals.

Messi's numbers were up significantly from his first season in France, which ended with him assisting 14 Ligue 1 goals and scoring just six.

But this was not the first time that the Argentina icon had ended a league campaign as the most creative player in one of Europe's top divisions.

Messi finished top or joint-top in the rankings in terms of assists in six of his last 11 seasons in La Liga with former club Barcelona.

He also won the Golden Boot prize in La Liga a record-breaking eight times.

Messi is set to leave PSG later this month when his contract expires.

Barcelona, Inter Miami and Al-Hilal are all keen to sign him on a free transfer.
