Lionel Messi wore the no.10 jersey in a competitive game for only the second time in his Paris Saint-Germain career on Wednesday night.

Messi had been Barcelona's no.10 for more than a decade when he left the Camp Nou to join PSG in August 2021.

But he had to settle for no.30 upon his arrival in Paris because his favorite number was in the possession of former Barca teammate Neymar.

Messi has worn no.30 in every Ligue 1 and Champions League appearance for PSG.

However, in the Coupe de France, players wear 1 to 11 on their backs, rather than a squad number.

Messi first got to wear PSG's no.10 jersey in last season's Coupe de France in February 2022.

It did not bring him much luck on that occasion though as PSG lost to Nice in a penalty shootout.

Nevertheless, Messi opted again to wear no.10 on Wednesday night when PSG took on Marseille in the last 16 of the Coupe de France.

PSG lost the game 2-1 and exited the competition at the same stage as last season.

Messi played the full 90 minutes up front alongside Neymar, who wore no.11, just as he had during his four seasons at Barcelona.
