Liverpool FC owner John Henry issued a statement on Monday to make it clear that Fenway Sports Group will not be selling the club any time soon.

FSG, which was co-founded by Henry in 2001 and also owns baseball's Boston Red Sox, bought Liverpool in October 2010.

Late last year an FSG spokesperson said that "under the right terms and conditions we would consider new shareholders if it was in the best interests of Liverpool".

This fueled reports claiming that Henry was keen to sell the Premier League club.

But Henry suggested this week that he will only consider selling a minority stake to new investors.

Replying to reporters by email, Henry wrote: "I know there has been a lot of conversation and quotes about LFC, but I keep to the facts: we merely formalized an ongoing process.

"Will we be in England forever? No. Are we selling LFC? No.

"Are we talking with investors about LFC? Yes. Will something happen there? I believe so, but it won't be a sale. Have we sold anything in the past 20+ years?"
