Luka Modric Thigh Injury Could See Real Madrid Star Miss Key Games Against Osasuna And Manchester City
Real Madrid could be without Luka Modric for next month's Copa del Rey final and the first leg of their Champions League semi-final against Manchester City.
The 37-year-old, who has featured in 44 matches for Real this season, injured a muscle in his left thigh during Tuesday's 4-2 defeat at Girona.
Modric is expected to miss approximately two weeks of action.
He will definitely not feature in Saturday's home clash with Almeria in La Liga or the trip to Real Sociedad three days later.
The Copa del Rey final against Osasuna in Sevilla on May 6 may also come too soon.
Madrid then host City at the Bernabeu on May 9.
Modric should at least be fit for the second leg at the Etihad Stadium on May 17.
Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti told reporters on Friday: "The truth is that Modric picked up a small injury in Girona.
"He's awaiting his progress and I don't know if he's going to make it to the cup final.
"Clearly we are hurt but in football it can happen."
Modric will be missed but Real still have plenty of high-class midfield options.
When quizzed about who might replace Modric if he cannot play against Osasuna and City, Ancelottti replied: "In terms of characteristics it's [Dani] Ceballos [who is most similar].
"But we have different resources. We have very good midfielders... [Eduardo] Camavinga, [Aurelien] Tchouameni, [Federico] Valverde… I have midfielders of the highest level."
