Luton Town captain Tom Lockyer was taken to hospital after collapsing on the field at Wembley Stadium during Saturday's EFL Championship play-off final against Coventry City.

The 28-year-old defender fell to the ground with no other player close to him while running during the first half.

Lockyer left the field on a stretcher while wearing an oxygen mask and he was taken to the Wembley medical room, where he was joined by his parents.

He then exited the stadium midway through the game to travel to hospital for further tests.

Lockyer was recently voted as Luton's Player of the Season.

The Wales international scored a crucial goal as Luton beat Sunderland in the play-off semi-finals earlier this month.

Luton went on to beat Coventry 6-5 in a penalty shootout after drawing 1-1 over 120 minutes of play.

The Hatters will play in England's top division next season for the first time since 1992.
