Manchester United Beaten By Nottingham Forest For First Time Since 1994
Manchester United ended 2023 by losing 2-1 at Nottingham Forest on Saturday.
Nicolas Dominguez and Morgan Gibbs-White got the goals for Forest, either side of a Marcus Rashford equalizer for United.
Saturday's result means that United will finish the calendar year seventh in the Premier League table, while Forest's win saw Nuno Espirito Santo's side climb to 15th place.
Forest had not beaten United since December 1994 before this weekend.
United had recorded 11 straight wins over Forest during that period, with an aggregate score of 39-5.
Dominguez scored the second goal of his Premier League career in the 64th minute on Saturday to give Forest a deserved lead at the City Ground.
Midfielder Dominguez stroked a cool low finish past Andre Onana from 15 yards after a neat turn and pass from fellow Argentina international Gonzalo Montiel.
A blunder by Forest keeper Matt Turner then helped United hit back in the 78th minute.
A poor pass by the USMNT stopper was intercepted by Alejandro Garnacho, who teed up Rashford to equalize.
Turner was heavily criticized by former United captain Gary Neville on Sky Sports.
Some fans suggested on social media that Neville had gone too far by calling Turner's mistake a "scandal" and describing the 29-year-old as "useless with his feet".
Turner would later perform a superb save in added time to preserve Forest's lead, after Gibbs-White had fired the hosts back ahead with a fine strike from 20 yards to finish off a slick counter-attack in the 82nd minute.
