Manchester City has been named as the most valuable football club brand in the world by the latest annual report published by Brand Finance.

Real Madrid has dropped to second place after four years in top spot.

City's brand is now said to be worth £1.299 billion, just £41m more than Real's.

According to the report, five of the world's top ten most valuable clubs are based in England's Premier League.

Reacting to news of Man City's promotion to top of the list, Roel de Vries, chief operating officer of City Football Group, said in a club statement: "Being recognized as the world's most valuable football club brand reflects the phenomenal growth story that Manchester City has had in recent years.

"This achievement recognizes the evolution of not just the brand, but the Club as a whole. The Club has been performing consistently and has broken records on and off the pitch this season, whilst operating in a way that promotes financial sustainability.
