Manchester City have signed 18-year-old midfielder Claudio Echeverri from River Plate in Argentina.

Echeverri, who captained Argentina at last year's FIFA U17 World Cup, has signed a contract with City until June 2028.

However, he will remain with River before moving to Manchester in January 2025.

According to Sky Sports, City will pay River a transfer fee of around £12.5 million plus add-ons.

Echeverri joined River at the age of eight before making his senior debut in June 2023.

He has already won two trophies with River - the Argentine Primera Division and the Trofeo de Campeones.

Echeverri is the second player to sign for City from River - after Julian Alvarez.

He will be the latest in a long line of Argentinians to play for City - following in the footsteps of Sergio Aguero, Carlos Tevez, Pablo Zabaleta, Nicolas Otamendi, Willy Caballero, Maximo Perrone and Martin Demichelis.

Former City defender Demichelis is the current manager at River.
