Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag sounded concerned when asked about the fitness of Marcus Rashford following Saturday's 2-0 win over Everton.

United had made an excellent start to the weekend as goals from Scott McTominay and Anthony Martial sealed a well deserved victory at Old Trafford.

But Rashford, who provided an assist for Martial's goal, gave United fans something to worry about when he limped off the field in the 81st minute.

Rashford left the field after appearing to have strained his groin.

Ten Hag was asked for an update on Rashford after the game during an interview with BT Sport.

"We have to wait," the Dutchman replied. "It doesn't look well.

"Once again, this is due to the schedule. It can't be that you play three games in six days. We have to protect our players.

"Everyone wants the best players to be on the pitch. Everyone wants to see great entertaining football, like today. But then you need your best players."

United's schedule is not about to get much lighter. Ten Hag's side have six fixtures left to play in April, including two legs of a Europa League quarter-final against Sevilla.
