Mikel Arteta Admits Arsenal Need New Signings To Win Premier League Title
Mikel Arteta hopes to lead Arsenal to the Premier League title next season but he admits it will only be possible if they sign the right players this summer.
The Gunners topped the table for much of the 2022/23 campaign but ultimately finished five points behind champions Manchester City.
Manager Arteta believes that the task of winning the league will be even harder next season.
That is why he is determined to strengthen his squad during the summer transfer window.
"Next season is going to be the toughest league in Premier League history," Arteta told reporters.
"Why? It already was last year. I've been here [England] for 22 years and I've never seen a competitive level like that. So much quality, so much organization, so many resources, so many good coaches.
"That's the level and to win the Premier League you have to be the best. That's why you have to strengthen."
Arteta believes that his team could have beaten City to the EPL title last season had it not been for significant injuries, including one which saw star defender William Saliba miss the last 11 games.
"To this day, it still hurts me deep inside not to have won the Premier League after 10 months of fighting with City," he added.
"There were three or four injuries to important players and from then on, everything got complicated. When we had the full team, we were consistent. As soon as problems came, it wasn't enough for us.
"Our opponent was the best team in the world, the best squad in the world, the best coach in the world.
"We had no choice but to accept it and shake hands with the champion."
Arsenal are expected to sign Kai Havertz from Chelsea in the coming days, while West Ham United captain Declan Rice is said to be Arteta's top target.
