Inter Miami have announced that construction work has begun on the site of the club's new stadium.

A club statement published late on Monday night read: "Inter Miami CF today announced that construction began on Miami Freedom Park earlier this month.

"The Inter Miami CF stadium, 58-acre public park, and entertainment district at Miami Freedom Park are scheduled to open in 2025 and the official groundbreaking ceremony will take place later this year.

"Miami Freedom Park is a 131-acre development anchored by a new 25,000-seat futbol specific stadium."

The statement added: "Miami Freedom Park is a privately funded, recreational project that will also include a new 58-acre public park that will be the largest new park in Miami, soccer and youth athletic fields for the community, a full range of entertainment and commercial offerings including office space, hotel, shops, restaurants and additional experiences and attractions."

The club will continue to play at the 21,000-capacity DRV PNK Stadium in Fort Lauderdale until the new venue is ready.

Managing owner Jorge Mas believes that Lionel Messi will still be an Inter Miami player when the club's new stadium opens in 2025.

Mas said within Monday's statement: "I can't wait to welcome our fans to our state-of-the-art stadium and hear the chants as Messi and your Inter Miami players take the pitch for the first time in 2025."

Messi is currently under contract with Miami until the end of 2025.
