Neymar is highly unlikely to play again during the 2023/24 season after Al-Hilal confirmed that the Brazilian forward has suffered a torn anterior cruciate ligament and meniscus in his left knee.

The 31-year-old left the field in tears on Tuesday night after he was injured during Brazil's 2-0 loss to Uruguay in Montevideo.

It is expected that Neymar will now be out of action for between seven and nine months.

A statement issued by Al-Hilal on Wednesday explained that medical tests on Neymar had "confirmed the anterior cruciate ligament and meniscus tear injury in his knee" and that surgery will be required.

Neymar joined Al-Hilal from Paris Saint-Germain in August for a transfer fee in the region of €90 million plus add-ons.

The former Barcelona star signed a two-year contract with an annual tax-free salary of around €150m.

He has so far featured in just five games for the Saudi Pro League side, scoring one goal.

The Saudi Pro League season will finish on May 27 next year.

Al-Hilal currently sit top of the table with 23 points from nine matches.
