Greek Super League Game Between Olympiacos And Panathinaikos Abandoned After Player Hit By Firework Thrown From Crowd

A game in the Greek Super League was abandoned on Sunday after a player was hit by a firework.

The match between fierce rivals Olympiacos and Panathinaikos at Karaiskakis Stadium was tied at 1-1 in the 50th minute when substitute Juankar left the away team's dugout to begin warming up near the touchline.

Moments later, the Panathinaikos defender fell to the ground after being struck by a firework thrown from the crowd.

Juankar, 33, was then treated by medical staff before being carried off on a stretcher.

According to his club, Juankar was "taken to hospital for tests". It was later reported that he had suffered a loss of hearing.

The match was initially suspended and then called off, with a statement issued by Panathinaikos claiming that the final result will be "decided in the courts".

Olympiacos still sit top of the Greek Super League table with six wins and one draw from the first seven rounds of fixtures this season.

The GSL leaders will host English side West Ham United in the Europa League on Thursday.
