Pep Guardiola's Man City Pass 600-Goal Landmark In Win Over Brave Brighton
Manchester City 3-1 Brighton
Manchester City scored their 599th, 600th and 601st Premier League goals of the Pep Guardiola era in a 3-1 win over Brighton.
City's first two on Saturday came courtesy of Erling Haaland, who now has 17 goals in 11 EPL appearances.
Kevin De Bruyne then found the net with a brilliant effort from long range after Leandro Trossard had sparked hope of a Brighton comeback.
City are now only the third club in Premier League history to score more than 600 goals under one manager.
Manchester United scored 1,634 goals in 813 Premier League matches when Sir Alex Ferguson was in charge, while Arsenal netted 1,566 times in 831 EPL games under Arsene Wenger.
City's 601 goals under Guardiola have come in just 239 matches.
Saturday's result means that Brighton have now lost on all six of their visits to the Etihad Stadium.
But they refused to play submissively. Brighton went toe-to-toe with City and remarkably ended the game having had 52% of possession.
Ultimately, City prevailed because they were more clinical - not necessarily more stylish.
City's opener came via a long punt from goalkeeper Ederson.
It tempted Brighton keeper Robert Sanchez to come steaming out of his penalty area but he was beaten the the ball by Haaland, who dribbled around him, overpowered Adam Webster and rolled a shot into an empty net.
Haaland's second came from the penalty spot after Lewis Dunk had fouled Bernardo Silva.
Brighton were 2-0 down by half-time but they were right back in the game in the 53rd minute after Solly March teed up Trossard to score powerfully from 18 yards.
The game was end-to-end and nerves were jangling at the Etihad Stadium until De Bruyne unleased a rocket into Sanchez's net a quarter of an hour before the end.
