Porto manager Sergio Conceicao has accused Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta of making an offensive comment about a deceased family member during Tuesday's UEFA Champions League round of 16 second leg.

The Gunners progressed to the quarter-finals by beating Porto 4-2 in a penalty shootout after a 1-0 home win had tied the contest at 1-1 on aggregate.

Conceicao refused to shake hands with Arteta after the shootout.

The ex-Portugal winger later suggested that this was because of something Arteta had said to him during a pitchside confrontation earlier in the night.

Conceicao said at a post-match press conference: "During the game he turned to the bench and insulted my family in Spanish.

"At the end I told him that the person he insulted is no longer among us.

"Let him worry about training his team, which has more than enough quality to play a lot better".

Arteta had spoken to the media before his Porto counterpart.

When asked about his clash with Conceicao, Arteta replied: "No comment. Thank you very much."

Arteta has since denied the accusation made by Conceicao in strong terms, according to the London Evening Standard.

Both managers received a yellow card from referee Clement Turpin during Tuesday's second leg.
