Racheal Kundananji is the most expensive player in the history of women's soccer after joining Bay FC in a record-breaking transfer from Madrid CFF.

According to BBC Sport, Bay FC paid Madrid $785,000 to sign the 23-year-old striker, who has scored 10 goals in 18 games for Zambia at senior international level.

That fee could eventually increase by a further $75,000 to $860,000 with add-ons.

Keira Walsh had previously held the world transfer record in women's soccer, having cost Barcelona around $460,000 when she moved from Manchester City in 2022.

Bay FC formed in April last year and will be part of an expanded 14-team National Women's Soccer League in 2024.

The new club based in California's San Francisco Bay Area signed six-time African Women's Footballer of the Year Asisat Oshoala from Barcelona earlier this month.

Scotland's Jen Beattie and Venezuela's Deyna Castellanos have also been recruited by Bay FC ahead of the 2024 season.
