Real Madrid Officially Announce Deal To Re-Sign Fran Garcia Two Years After Selling Him
Real Madrid have confirmed that Spanish left-back Fran Garcia will return to the Bernabeu this summer.
Garcia, 23, joined Real in 2013 as a 14-year-old but left in 2021 to sign for Rayo Vallecano after a successful loan spell there in the 2020/21 season.
Including his first season on loan, Garcia played more than 150 games for Rayo, who finished 11th in the most recent edition of La Liga.
Real retained 50% of Garcia's sporting rights when he signed for Rayo and, according to ESPN, it has cost just €5 million to buy back the other half.
That looks like a bargain for a player who could become a first-team regular at the Bernabeu next season.
Ferland Mendy is Real's current specialist left-back but he has been linked with a move away this summer.
Mendy missed 23 matches due to muscular injuries last season, meaning midfielder Eduardo Camavinga was frequently needed to fill in on the left side of defense.
An official statement published on Friday read: "Real Madrid C.F. and Rayo Vallecano have agreed the transfer of the player Fran Garcia, who will be with the club for the next four seasons.
"Fran Garcia was a member of the Real Madrid youth academy from 2013, where he arrived at just 14 years of age, until 2020. He spent two seasons with Castilla and made his debut for Real Madrid's first team in 2018.
"On Monday 12 June, at 12:00 noon at Real Madrid City, Fran Garcia will be unveiled as a new Real Madrid player. Fran Garcia will then appear before the media."
