Riyad Mahrez Scores Spot Kick Against Sheffield United After Replacing Erling Haaland As Man City Penalty Taker
Erling Haaland stepped back from his role as Manchester City's penalty taker during Saturday's FA Cup semi-final against Sheffield United.
Haaland has been City's main man on penalties this season, scoring from seven spot-kicks so far.
But the 22-year-old missed from the spot on Wednesday night during City's 1-1 draw at Bayern Munich in the Champions League.
So Riyad Mahrez stepped up instead of Haaland after Daniel Jebbison fouled Bernardo Silva at Wembley on Saturday.
Mahrez made no mistake from 12 yards as he sent Blades keeper Wes Foderingham the wrong way to put City 1-0 up shortly before half time.
Algeria winger Mahrez has now successfully scored four penalties in a row after missing two in October last year.
Mahrez went on to score two more goals on Saturday to help City beat the Blades 3-0.
He is the first player since Alex Dawson in 1958 to score a hat-trick in an FA Cup semi-final.
