Robbie Keane has been announced as Maccabi Tel Aviv's new manager.

The former Tottenham and LA Galaxy striker signed a two-year contract with the Israeli Premier League club this week.

Speaking to his new club's official website, Keane, 42, said: "I am delighted to take on this challenge at Maccabi.

"My team and I look forward to beginning work and we have confidence in our ability to do what is necessary to prepare the team for the coming season."

This will be Keane's first permanent position in senior management.

He has previously worked as an assistant manager at Leeds, Middlesbrough and the Republic of Ireland.

The Irishman took charge of three games as Kolkata player-manager, scoring in them all, while winning two and losing one.

Maccabi Tel Aviv finished third in the Israeli Premier League last season.

They will enter this season's UEFA Europa Conference League in the second qualifying round where they will face Moldova's Petrocub Hincesti.
