Tottenham interim manager Ryan Mason was adamant that his team outplayed Liverpool on Sunday despite losing 4-3 at Anfield.

Spurs fell 3-0 down inside the first 15 minutes but fought back to level the game in second-half added time when Richarlison headed in his first Premier League goal since joining from Everton last summer.

However, Liverpool retook the lead 99 seconds later when Diogo Jota found the net after intercepting a blind pass from Lucas Moura.

Speaking to Sky Sports after the game, Mason said: "I'm devastated. The reality is the team that created the most chances lost the game.

"We were the better team by an absolute country mile. To gift a team like Liverpool four goals makes it difficult. It's tough to put it into words, absolutely gutted.

"You have to realize and understand the Premier League and what it brings to the table every game. To start a game like that is hard to put into words and understand why.

"We know we prepared the game well because every time we had the ball we looked like scoring."

Jota's winning goal came 13 minutes after he had received a yellow card for a dangerous challenge that saw him accidentally kick Oliver Skipp's forehead.

Mason blasted the decision not to sent Jota off, describing the incident as a red card that was "impossible" to miss.
