Sadio Mane will not feature in Bayern Munich's game against Hoffenheim on Saturday after being dropped "due to his misconduct".

Mane punched teammate Leroy Sane in the face during a locker room argument after Bayern's 3-0 defeat at Manchester City in the Champions League on Tuesday.

This assault came after the two players had been involved in a heated verbal exchange on the pitch.

Both Mane and Sane were pictured training with their teammates on Thursday morning.

But later in the day, Bayern issued a short statement to confirm that Mane would be excluded from the squad and also be hit with a financial punishment.

The statement read: "Sadio Mane, 31, will not be included in the FC Bayern squad for this Saturday's home match against 1899 Hoffenheim.

"This is due to his misconduct after Bayern's Champions League match at Manchester City. Mane will also be given a fine."

Mane joined Bayern from Liverpool for an initial fee of £27.5 million in June last year.

He scored 11 goals in his first 20 matches for the German champions but has not found the net in nine appearances since the World Cup.

Mane is under contract with Bayern until June 2025 but there are rumors that the club may look to sell him this summer.
