Simone Inzaghi Says Inter Milan Did Not Deserve To Lose Against Manchester City
Inter Milan manager Simone Inzaghi does not believe that the score in Saturday's UEFA Champions League final against Manchester City was a fair reflection of the game.
City won 1-0 thanks to a 68th-minute strike from midfielder Rodri, despite Inter recording twice as many shots as the English side - 14 to seven.
Federico Dimarco, Romelu Lukaku and Danilo D'Ambrosio all had big chances to score for Inter but were denied by a combination of keeper Ederson and the City woodwork.
Inzaghi told Sky Sport after the game: "It's normal to have regrets. Losing is the worst thing in sport. At the same time, the players need to be proud of the season and the performance in the final.
"We played against a great opponent but we clearly did not deserve to lose."
Inzaghi continued: "I would like to hug every single one of the Inter fans, just like my players. They are fantastic. They are always there for us.
"This is football. It's from these disappointments that you grow. I'm still wondering how it's possible that we didn't score at the end. We clearly deserved more.
"This final could be the fuel to try again next season. The team demonstrated they can play at this level. We had plenty of chances at the end, we deserved more. This was our game plan and we could have done even better."
Inter defender Dimarco added in an interview with SportMediaset: "We're disappointed to have lost the most important game and disappointed to have played on equal terms with a team built to win the competition. Sadly, we didn't score.
"This final has to be a starting point, not an end point, for what Inter showed this season."
