Queen Letizia of Spain will fly to Australia this week to attend the 2023 FIFA Women's World Cup final.

Spain will face England at Sydney's Stadium Australia on Sunday in what will be the first Women's World Cup final involving either nation.

But while Queen Letizia will be there to support La Roja, no British royals are expected to be present to cheer on the Lionesses.

It is understood that Prince William, who is the president of England's Football Association, decided not to attend the final due to concerns about his carbon footprint.

The prince has made tackling climate change one of his key priorities and is reluctant to take a long-distance flight for a very short stay in Australia.

He will instead watch Sunday's game on television in the UK.

Meanwhile, Spain's King Felipe will also not be at the final in person. He is said to be busy with other official duties.

But Queen Letizia will be joined at Stadium Australia by her 16-year-old daughter, Infanta Sofia.
