Former England boss Sven-Goran Eriksson will form part of Liverpool's management team for a charity game against Ajax in March.

Ian Rush, John Barnes and John Aldridge will work alongside Eriksson as co-managers.

Eriksson said in January that he likely had less than 12 months to live after being diagnosed with terminal cancer.

The 75-year-old also revealed that he was a Liverpool fan and that he had "always wished to be the manager" of the Anfield club.

Supporters reacted to this news by campaigning for the club to allow Eriksson to take charge of a Liverpool XI against Ajax in a Legends game featuring former first-team players.

The club listened and said in a statement this week: "Liverpool FC is delighted to confirm Sven-Goran Eriksson will be part of the LFC Legends management team for the game against Ajax Legends at Anfield on March 23.

"The former England boss will join a dugout of Reds greats, including Ian Rush, John Barnes and John Aldridge, for the annual LFC Foundation charity match.

"All connected with the club and LFC Foundation look forward to warmly welcoming LFC fan Sven and his family to Anfield - and seeing him in the dugout on the day - for a fantastic fundraising occasion."

Jerzy Dudek, Martin Skrtel, Fabio Aurelio and Djibril Cisse are all set to feature for the Liverpool Legends team, while former Reds and Ajax forward Ryan Babel will play for both sides.

One hundred per cent of the money raised from the fixture will be used to support the work of the LFC Foundation and its charity partners.

Liverpool's two most recent Legends games, against Manchester United and Celtic, raised £1.45 million ($1.84m).
