Thomas Tuchel Replaces Julian Nagelsmann As Bayern Munich Manager
Bayern Munich announced on Friday that Julian Nagelsmann had left the club and been replaced as manager by former Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel.
A statement published on social media read: "FC Bayern and head coach Julian Nagelsmann have parted company.
"This decision was taken by CEO Oliver Kahn and board member for sport Hasan Salihamidzic in consultation with club president Herbert Hainer.
"Nagelsmann will be succeeded by Thomas Tuchel."
The decision to dispense of Nagelsmann came as a shock to many fans, considering Bayern's results had been generally positive throughout his time in the job.
Nagelsmann had won 71.4% of his games since becoming Bayern boss in July 2021.
Bayern won the Bundesliga last year and are currently just one point behind leaders Dortmund with nine rounds of fixtures remaining this season.
In the Champions League, Bayern lost in the quarter-finals to Villarreal last season but they have won all eight of their European fixtures so far this term.
Ultimately, it was personality rather than performance that caused Bayern to part ways with Nagelsmann.
His relationships with several players, including captain Manuel Neuer, were said to be rocky.
Nagelsmann was also accused, although not publicly by the club, of leaking information about Bayern to the media after leaving his wife to begin a romantic relationship with journalist Lena Wurzenberger.
Despite reports of bad blood at Bayern, Nagelsmann was sent on his way with warm words from Kahn and Salihamidzic.
Kahn said: "Personally and on behalf of FC Bayern, I would like to thank Julian and his coaching team, and wish everyone the best of luck for the future."
Salihamidzic added: "I am very grateful to Julian for what he has done for FC Bayern and I wish him all the best."
Tuchel's first game as Bayern boss will be on April 1 at home to Dortmund.
If Bayern win they will move to the top of the Bundesliga. If Dortmund win, they will go four points above Bayern.
