USMNT Starlet Poised To Achieve Something His Ballon d'Or-Winning Father Never Did
Timothy Weah is expected to be named in the United States squad for the 2022 FIFA World Cup.
Weah, 22, already has 25 caps for the USMNT and scored his third senior international goal in a 3-0 win over Morocco in June.
The Lille winger is the son of 1995 Ballon d'Or winner George Weah.
Despite being one of the best players of his generation, Weah Snr never got to play at a World Cup.
He represented Liberia at international level and the African nation has never qualified for a FIFA finals.
But Weah Jnr was born in New York and has represented the USA since 2015 when he made his international debut at Under 15 level.
He says that his father, who is currently in office as the president of Liberia, is very excited about watching him play for the USMNT in Qatar.
"I know he is excited deep down because he didn't get the chance to play in a World Cup with his country," Weah Jnr told the Daily Mail.
"I feel he is living that moment through me. He is excited like any father or mother would be. They want me to do my best and I just want to perform."
First up for the USMNT in Qatar is a game against Wales on November 21.
