USWNT Up To 2nd In FIFA Women's Rankings As Spain Takes 1st Place 117 Days After Winning World Cup
The United States women's national team has climbed up to second place in the FIFA World Rankings.
The USWNT had previously been ranked in first place for more than six years before dropping to third in August after its worst campaign in Women's World Cup history.
But since losing to Sweden in a penalty shootout in the last 16 of the 2023 World Cup, the USA has won nine of 11 games played.
That run of results includes six friendly matches - two wins over China, two victories over South Africa, plus a win and a draw against Colombia.
The USWNT also sent a young squad to the 2023 Pan American Games in October and November, finishing third after losing to Chile in the semi-finals.
Before that defeat by Chile, the USA had beaten Bolivia, Costa Rica and Argentina in the group stage. Another victory over Argentina followed in the third-place playoff.
Spain now tops the Women's FIFA Rankings for the first time, having previously been second immediately after winning this year's World Cup.
Sweden had been in first place back in August but now sits fifth, with France and England third and fourth respectively.
The latest edition of the Women's World Rankings includes 192 ranked nations, with the Central African Republic (145th) and Macau (173rd) featuring for the first time.
