Burnley boss Vincent Kompany is reportedly top of Tottenham Hotspur's wanted list in the club's search for a new permanent manager.

Spurs parted company with Antonio Conte last month and are currently being managed by Cristian Stellini on an interim basis until the end of the season.

An extensive search has seen Tottenham linked with Julian Nagelsmann, Luis Enrique, Brendan Rodgers, Arne Slot and Mauricio Pochettino.

But according to The Sun, Kompany has emerged as Spurs chairman Daniel Levy's first-choice candidate.

Kompany has enjoyed a spectacular first season in charge of Burnley.

The former Manchester City defender has already guided the Clarets to promotion to the Premier League with games to spare.

Kompany was appointed by Burnley in June last year, after spending three seasons in charge of Belgian side Anderlecht.

Under Kompany, Burnley have won 26 of their 40 Championship matches and lost only two.

During his playing career, Kompany spent three years as Manchester City captain serving directly under Pep Guardiola.

Kompany was a center-back in his playing days but he appears to have inherited Guardiola's passion for stylish attacking football.

This is something that Spurs fans are desperate to see again after the club's last three managers were all highly defense-minded.
