Sheffield United 3-1 Wrexham

Wrexham produced another inspired FA Cup performance on Tuesday night but ultimately bowed out of the competition after losing at Sheffield United.

EFL Championship side United eventually prevailed 3-1 at Bramall Lane, nine days after John Egan had rescued a 3-3 draw with a last-minute equalizer in North Wales.

Tuesday's replay looked like it was going to be a much more straightforward affair when Anel Ahmedhodzic lashed the home side into the lead five minutes into the second half.

But Wrexham drew level before the hour-mark after Ahmedhodzic had fouled Paul Mullin inside the penalty area.

Mullin took the spot-kick himself and smashed it home emphatically down the middle to score his 29th goal of the season.

Wrexham's lead frontman had a golden chance to take his 2022/23 tally to 30 goals 12 minutes later after winning his team another penalty, this time for a foul by Oliver Norwood.

But Mullin's second spot-kick was saved by United keeper Adam Davies.

Mullin was substituted off with an injury in the 82nd minute but Wrexham continued to push forward in search of a winning goal.

However, the home side retook the lead when Billy Sharp drilled past Rob Lainton in the fourth minute of added time.

Sander Berge then added gloss to the scoreline with another late goal.

Wrexham had beaten Oldham Athletic, Farnborough and Coventry City in the FA Cup this season.

The non-league club's run to round four earned £213,000 in FA Cup prize money, plus much more in TV money and gate receipts.

United will now play Tottenham Hotspur at home in round five. That game will take place on March 1.
