Barcelona manager Xavi Hernandez is refusing to concede defeat in this season's La Liga title race, despite his team falling eight points behind leaders Girona.

Barcelona manager Xavi Hernandez is refusing to concede defeat in this season's La Liga title race.

The reigning champions have dropped points in seven of their opening 19 league games of the 2023/24 campaign and currently sit fourth in the table.

Barca are level on points with Athletic Bilbao but eight behind leaders Girona and seven below rivals Real Madrid.

Speaking ahead of Sunday's trip to Real Betis, Xavi told reporters : "We face the second half of the season full of optimism.

"The situation is not easy, it is a tough one because there's a big gap between us and Madrid or Girona.

"But we think coming back from it to win La Liga is a doable thing. We'll try it."

Real Madrid will take on Almeria at the Bernabeu on Sunday. Elsewhere, Girona will host Sevilla.
