Eric Ramsay has left his coaching role at Manchester United to become the new manager of Minnesota United.

The 32-year-old had been on the Red Devils coaching staff since 2021.

Ramsay - who also held the role of assistant coach with the Wales men's national team for six months in 2023 - is now the youngest manager in Major League Soccer history.

"I'm incredibly excited to be joining a club with such a strong football culture, a fanatic fanbase and a brilliant infrastructure," Ramsay said.

"I've spoken to a lot of the club's staff throughout the process and you can't help but feel everyone's passion for moving the club forward."

Minnesota had been without a permanent boss since Adrian Heath left the club in October.

Khaled El-Ahmad, Minnesota's chief soccer officer, said: "After an extensive search that included dozens of impressive domestic and international candidates, we are confident that Eric Ramsay is the best choice to lead our club.

"His experience working with top-level players, coaches, and sporting staff at both the club and international level - as well as his alignment in playing style and development philosophy - all fit with the vision we have for the future of MNUFC."

Minnesota started the 2024 MLS season with a 2-1 win over Austin FC on Saturday.
