It is looking increasingly likely that Lionel Messi will become a Major League Soccer player in 2023.

According to The Athletic, Inter Miami bosses expect Messi to sign following two years of transfer talks.

Inter Miami co-owner David Beckham shared a pitch with Messi numerous times during the former England captain's playing career.

But it has been fellow co-owners, Jorge and Jose Mas, who have reportedly led negotiations with Messi's inner circle, including multiple meetings with the player's father.

Messi's current contract with Paris Saint-Germain is due to expire a week after his 36th birthday in June 2023, when the seven-time Ballon d'Or winner is set to become a free agent.

The Argentina captain did not make the top 30 in the 2022 Ballon d'Or vote but he is still one of the biggest names on the planet.

Messi is also one of the most in-form players in world soccer right now - having scored 12 goals and provided 13 assists in 17 matches for PSG this season.

So, naturally, Inter Miami will not be his only option.

PSG are said to be keen to keep Messi beyond the end of his current deal, while there have been rumors about a return to Barcelona practically from the moment he left in August 2021.

But Miami is a location that Messi and his family like. They already own a property in the city.
