Arsenal Transfer Would Appeal to Kylian Mbappe
Paris Saint-Germain frontman Kylian Mbappe would reportedly be open to the idea of joining Arsenal to follow in the footsteps of France legend Thierry Henry.
However, it is highly unlikely that the 25-year-old will move to England's Premier League.
Mbappe is under contract at PSG until June 30 when he will be able to move elsewhere on a free transfer.
Real Madrid is understood to be Mbappe's most probable destination, although he could still opt to extend his stay in Paris.
Mbappe is currently the highest-paid footballer in Europe and this status is expected to limit his options.
It could well be the case that Real Madrid is the only club in Europe, apart from PSG, that can afford to meet Mbappe's financial demands.
According to The Independent's chief football writer Miguel Delaney, Mbappe's representatives contacted Liverpool earlier this season but talks did not result in an offer from the Anfield club.
Explaining why Liverpool failed to make an offer, Delaney wrote: "They just didn't want him that badly to break their entire financial strategy."
Delaney added: "It's similar with Arsenal, who Mbappe would willingly join.
"That is in part a question of legacy, too, since it appeals to the player to follow Thierry Henry. This appreciation for history and legends had been the sort of thinking that once guided his career plan.
"Now, for a player who clearly thinks on that kind of grand scale, Mbappe's options are oddly limited. It is a contradiction of such ability, but also a consequence of the modern game."
Henry is Arsenal's all-time leading scorer, having netted 228 goals in 377 games across two spells at the London club between 1999 and 2012.
Meanwhile, Mbappe holds PSG's scoring record with 242 goals in 289 appearances.
