Kylian Mbappe More Likely To Move To Real Madrid Than Stay At PSG, Betting Odds Suggest

Bookmakers believe that Kylian Mbappe is more likely to move to Real Madrid this summer than he is to stay at Paris Saint-Germain.

Mbappe has one year remaining on his current contract.

The 24-year-old has no intention of extending his stay with PSG beyond June 2024 but has said that he wishes to remain at the Parc des Princes until the end of the 2023/24 season.

However, PSG president Nasser Al-Khelaifi recently gave Mbappe a public ultimatum, effectively telling his star striker that he must sign a new deal or leave this summer.

This is because PSG would lose Mbappe on a free transfer were he to depart at the end of his contract.

"Our position is very clear," said Al-Khelaifi at a press conference last week.

"If Kylian Mbappe wants to stay - and we want him to stay - he needs to sign a new contract.

"We cannot let the best player in the world right now leave for free. That is impossible."

Kylian Mbappe held up a jersey printed with "Mbappe 2025" after signing a new contract with PSG last summer, but his deal actually expires in June 2024, not 2025 - it will only be valid until 2025 if the player chooses to activate an extension clause

Mbappe's situation is being monitored closely in Madrid.

Real tried and failed to sign Mbappe on a free transfer 12 months ago, before the player agreed to pen a new contract to remain in Paris.

Mbappe had agreed personal terms with Real prior to extending his stay in Paris and his change of heart did not go down well in the Bernabeu boardroom.

Real president Florentino Perez was said to have felt betrayed but he and Mbappe reportedly patched things up earlier this year following an apology from the France captain.

If Mbappe leaves Paris this summer then there is one obvious destination.

Multiple European bookmakers are currently taking bets on where Mbappe will be based once the transfer window closes in September.

According to the odds on offer, Mbappe staying at PSG this summer is more of a long shot than him moving to Madrid.

Mbappe to join Madrid during the current transfer window is rated as a 1/2 (-200) shot by both bet365 and Sky Bet.

Meanwhile, Mbappe can be backed at 6/4 (150) with bet365 to still be a PSG player once the window has closed.

Nevertheless, Mbappe to Madrid this summer is by no means a sure thing.

PSG are said to have set a €200 million asking price, which is naturally more than Real want to pay for a player who could potentially be available for free in 12 months.

Real have already spent over €120 million on Jude Bellingham and Arda Guler since the end of last season.
