Brighton & Hove Albion have accepted an offer from Liverpool for Ecuador midfielder Moises Caicedo.

The two clubs have agreed a transfer fee worth £111 million for the 21-year-old, according to BBC Sport.

If the deal goes through then Caicedo will become the most expensive player in Premier League history - breaking the record currently set by Enzo Fernandez's £106.8m move from Benfica to Chelsea in January.

However, there is no guarantee that Caicedo will agree to go to Anfield.

It is believed that he wants to join Chelsea instead.

The Blues have seen multiple offers rejected by Brighton this summer, but the London club could now attempt to hijack Liverpool's proposed deal.

Sky Sports reporter Dharmesh Sheth claimed on Friday morning that he had been told that Caicedo was "having second thoughts" about joining Liverpool.

Sheth added that Caicedo and his representatives were still in London, although at that time there was "no official word" that Chelsea had made a new offer to compete with Liverpool's.

A later update by transfer expert Fabrizio Romano read: "Moises Caicedo has just informed Liverpool that he only wants to join Chelsea!

"Caicedo has decided to keep his word and only accept Chelsea as personal terms were agreed since end of May.

"Chelsea, set to bid again in order to get deal done with Brighton."

Caicedo joined Brighton from Ecuadoran side Independiente del Valle in February 2021.

He has since made 45 Premier League appearances for Brighton, providing two goals and two assists.

Caicedo was voted as Brighton's Player of the Season at the end of the 2023/24 campaign.
