Cristiano Ronaldo scored from a penalty kick to fire Al Nassr to a 1-0 win at Al-Ahli in the Saudi Pro League on Friday night in a game played in front of a hostile crowd.

Ronaldo confidently converted from 12 yards to score the 879th goal of his senior career midway through the second half at the 62,345-capacity King Abdullah Sports City near Jeddah.

The 39-year-old had earlier seen a goal disallowed for a tight offside call following a VAR review.

While he was celebrating this goal - before it was ruled out - multiple fans were caught on camera throwing objects towards Ronaldo.

It was not immediately obvious what was thrown but two of the missiles landed close to Ronaldo's feet.

More objects were thrown from the stands moments later, including a bottle of water that struck Al Nassr midfielder Otavio on his head.

Otavio was stood next to Ronaldo when he saw the bottle - which appeared to be full of liquid - flying towards him.

The former Porto player tried to catch it with his hands before it hit his head and he then fell to the floor.

Friday's win saw Al Nassr move nine points clear of Al-Ahli in the Saudi Pro League table.

Al-Ahli - whose roster includes Edouard Mendy, Riyad Mahrez, Roberto Firmino, Franck Kessie and Allan Saint-Maximin - now sit third with 47 points from 24 games this season.

Second-placed Al Nassr have 56 points but are still unlikely to catch leaders Al-Hilal, who have yet to lose a league game this season.

However, Ronaldo is on track to win the Golden Boot. He is top of the Saudi Pro League's scoring charts with 23 goals in 22 games this season.

His closest rival is Al-Hilal forward Aleksandar Mitrovic, who has netted 20 goals in 20 matches.
