Alejo Veliz Nets First Tottenham Goal In High-Scoring Loss At Brighton
Alejo Veliz scored the first goal of his Premier League career but it came in a defeat as Tottenham lost 4-2 at Brighton on Thursday night.
Spurs were losing 4-0 until the 20-year-old netted a consolation goal in the 81st minute following a cut-back from captain Son Heung-min.
But Veliz's mood was seemingly not overly dampened by the scoreline as he celebrated with plenty of gusto.
Spurs later pulled another goal back courtesy of Ben Davies but a frantic finish could not prevent a fifth EPL loss of the season.
Teenage defender Jack Hinshelwood had earlier rocketed Brighton into the lead in the 11th minute.
Joao Pedro then scored twice from the penalty spot, either side of a stunning strike from Pervis Estupinan, who celebrated by announcing in front of a nearby TV camera: "I'm back!"
Richarlison had two goals disallowed for offside before Veliz and Davies struck late on.
Brighton are now just six points behind Spurs in the Premier League table.
