Manchester United started the new Premier League season with a 1-0 win over Wolves despite being second best for much of Monday's match.

Wolves, in their first game under manager Gary O'Neil, recorded 23 shots at Old Trafford - eight more than United.

But the only goal of the game came courtesy of Raphael Varane, who headed in an Aaron Wan-Bissaka cross in the 76th minute.

Wolves played some superb soccer but were wasteful in front of goal.

Just six of their 23 shots forced Andre Onana into saves on what was still a rather busy EPL debut for the former Ajax goalkeeper.

Onana was lucky not to concede a late penalty kick following a VAR check.

After a failed attempt to intercept a cross in added time, Onana clattered into Wolves striker Sasa Kalajdzic.

Both of Onana's outstretched arms made contact with Kalajdzic, who went tumbling to the ground.

A Wolves penalty looked likely but - following a lengthy delay - on-field referee Simon Hooper was not advised to review the incident and United held on to record three points.
