Gabriel Jesus and Kai Havertz got the goals as Arsenal beat Brighton & Hove Albion 2-0 at the Emirates Stadium in the Premier League on Sunday.

Jesus scored his seventh goal of the season in the 53rd minute before Havertz wrapped up the victory late on.

The win took Arsenal top of the EPL table.

Brighton failed to record a single shot on target in the opening 45 minutes of a game for the first time in 49 Premier League matches under Roberto De Zerbi.

At the other end, Seagulls stopper Bart Verbruggen was called upon to keep out efforts from Bukayo Saka, Jesus and defender Gabriel Magalhaes.

But Verbruggen was finally beaten eight minutes into the second half when Jesus headed home at the far post after Saka's corner had deflected off Brighton defender Jan Paul van Hecke.

Havertz then doubled Arsenal's lead in the 87th minute with a clinical finish following a neat through pass by Eddie Nketiah.

Arsenal ended the match having registered 26 attempts on goal - 20 more than Brighton.

Sunday's win means that Arsenal are now five points ahead of last season's champions Manchester City, who drew 2-2 at home to Crystal Palace on Saturday.
