Benjamin Pavard Scores Screamer As France Beat Ireland In Dublin
Ireland 0-1 France
Benjamin Pavard scored a superb goal as France edged a close contest with Ireland in Dublin on Monday.
Both sides recorded 11 shots at the Aviva Stadium but only one hit the net.
The goal arrived in the 50th minute when a misplaced pass from Joshua Cullen fell invitingly for Bayern Munich right-back Pavard.
Pavard took one touch to control the loose ball before smashing a venomous shot past keeper Gavin Bazunu from 21 yards.
This was Pavard's third international goal and his second from outside of the penalty area.
He famously scored another screamer in a 4-3 win over Argentina at the 2018 World Cup.
France's win over Ireland came three days after they had began their Euro 2024 qualifying campaign by thrashing Holland 4-0.
Les Bleus will resume their bid to reach Euro 2024 in June when they face Gibraltar and Greece.
Ireland will also play Greece and Gibraltar in June.
