Benjamin Pavard Scores Two Goals As France Thrash Scotland In Lille
Benjamin Pavard bagged the first brace of his international career as France came from behind to thrash Scotland 4-1 in an international friendly in Lille.
Scotland stunned the Stade Pierre Mauroy by taking a shock lead in the 11th minute when Billy Gilmour punished a mistake from Eduardo Camavinga inside the 18-yard box.
But France then turned the game around thanks to two strikes from Pavard in the next quarter of an hour.
Pavard headed the 2018 world champions level from an Antoine Griezmann corner kick. He then doubled his tally with another header following a fine run and cross from Kylian Mbappe.
It was 3-1 to France before half-time thanks to a penalty kick converted by Mbappe after a foul by Liam Cooper on Olivier Giroud.
Substitute Kingsley Coman then wrapped up the victory for France in the second half by firing in a rebound after Griezmann had struck the crossbar.
Tuesday's result brought Scotland back down to earth with a bump, coming just 48 hours after Steve Clarke's side had celebrated securing qualification for Euro 2024.
