Bruno Fernandes Penalty In FA Cup Final Ends Manchester City's Run Of Clean Sheets
Manchester City conceded a goal for the first time in this season's FA Cup when Bruno Fernandes converted a penalty kick 33 minutes into Saturday's final.
The spot-kick was not initially awarded by on-field referee Paul Tierney.
But VAR David Coote advised Tierney to review the incident after spotting that the ball had struck Jack Grealish's fingertips inside the penalty area.
After watching multiple replays, Tierney overturned his original call and gave the penalty.
Grealish may have gotten fingers to the ball but City keeper Stefan Ortega got nowhere near it with his as Fernandes sent him the wrong way before coolly finishing from 12 yards.
This was the 14th goal Fernandes had scored for United this season and it leveled Saturday's final at 1-1 after Ilkay Gundogan's opener inside 12 seconds.
City had kept clean sheets against Chelsea, Arsenal, Bristol City, Burnley and Sheffield United in their previous five FA Cup matches this year.
City went on to beat United 2-1 thanks to another fine strike by Gundogan.
