Callum Wilson scored his eighth goal of the season to fire Newcastle United into a 1-0 lead 16 minutes into Tuesday's EFL Cup quarter-final at Chelsea.

Wilson ran with the ball from inside his own half before beating Blues keeper Djordje Petrovic with the outside of his right boot.

The England striker powered past Thiago Silva but Chelsea's other center-back, Benoit Badiashile, then got his body in between Wilson and the ball.

However, Badiashile undid his good work by allowing the ball to bounce off his right shin into the path of Wilson, who celebrated his fine goal in front of a section of home fans.

Wilson shushed Stamford Bridge by putting his finger to his lips.

Multiple Chelsea fans then aimed offensive gestures at Wilson, who responded by blowing them a kiss.

But those Chelsea fans would be celebrating at the end of the night after Chelsea eventually prevailed in a penalty shootout.

Mykhailo Mudryk equalized for the Blues in the 92nd minute to tie the game at 1-1 before the home side won 4-2 on spot-kicks.

Tuesday's game was Wilson's 100th for Newcastle.

He has now scored 46 goals for the Magpies since signing from Bournemouth in September 2020.
