Chelsea Win Penalty Shootout To Knock Lyon Out Of Women's Champions League After Scoring 128th-Minute Goal In Stamford Bridge Epic

Chelsea won a penalty shootout to knock Lyon out of the UEFA Women's Champions League after scoring in the 128th minute to tie their quarter-final on aggregate.

Ann Katrin-Berger saved two spot-kicks as Chelsea beat holders Lyon in a penalty shootout to reach the semi-finals of the UEFA Women's Champions League.

Chelsea had started Thursday's game 1-0 up from the first leg in France, but they needed a 128th-minute goal just to force a shootout after Lyon had scored twice at Stamford Bridge.

Lyon levelled the aggregate score 77 minutes into Thursday's second leg when Vanessa Gilles squeezed a shot inside the near post following a cross from Lindsey Horan.

Lyon then completed the turnaround 20 minutes into extra time when 2018 Ballon d'Or winner Ada Hegerberg set up Sara Daebritz to make it 2-0 to Lyon on the night.

Chelsea were seemingly seconds away from being knocked out when Vicki Becho fouled Lauren James inside the penalty area in the second minute of added time at the end of extra time.

A VAR check added to the tension but, after a six-minute wait, Maren Mjelde converted the spot-kick to send the game to a penalty shootout.

Mjelde kicked off the shootout by scoring again from 12 yards.

Dzsenifer Marozsan, Sam Kerr, Hegerberg, Jessie Fleming, Daebritz and Jessica Carter also found the net.

But Berger saved from Wendie Renard and Horan to send Chelsea through to the last four where they will take on Barcelona.

Arsenal will face Wolfsburg in the other semi-final.
