Chelsea Beat Real Madrid To Qualify For Women's Champions League Quarter-Finals
Chelsea booked a place in the quarter-finals of the UEFA Women's Champions League by beating Real Madrid 2-1 at Stamford Bridge on Wednesday night.
All of the goals came during an eight-minute burst of action in the second half.
Guro Reiten fired the Blues ahead with a penalty kick in the 62nd minute.
Athenea del Castillo equalized for Madrid with a close-range tap-in after Hannah Hampton had saved an initial shot from Hayley Raso.
But a goalkeeping blunder by Mylene Chavas restored Chelsea's lead when she pushed an Erin Cuthbert cross into her own net.
Chelsea now have 11 points from five matches and will finish top of Group D regardless of what happens in next week's trip to Paris FC.
Madrid are guaranteed to finish in last place, while BK Haecken must beat the Spanish side on January 30 to be sure of joining Chelsea in the final eight.
