Cristiano Ronaldo Bites After Al-Hilal Fans Chant Lionel Messi's Name
Cristiano Ronaldo sent a message to Al-Hilal fans on Thursday night after they attempted to taunt him by chanting the name of Lionel Messi.
Ronaldo and Messi are two of the greatest players in soccer history and have shared an epic rivalry for well over a decade.
That rivalry was at its peak between 2009 and 2018 when both players were based in Spain's La Liga, with Real Madrid and Barcelona respectively.
Ronaldo now plays for Al Nassr in Saudi Arabia, while Messi is currently stationed in the United States with Inter Miami.
However, barely a game passes by for Ronaldo without at least one chant of "Messi, Messi, Messi" being aimed in his direction by opposition fans.
You might think that by now 39-year-old Ronaldo would be immune to it... but you might be wrong.
He bit on Thursday after the Messi chant started up during Al Nassr's 2-0 defeat by Al-Hilal in the Riyadh Season Cup.
In video footage recorded by a fan inside the Kingdom Arena, an animated Ronaldo appears to respond by saying: "I am here now. Not Messi."
Another video taken by a fan at the stadium on Thursday later caught Ronaldo rubbing an Al-Hilal scarf against his crotch.
It was a frustrating night for Ronaldo, who played the full 90 minutes but was far from his brilliant best.
He recorded four shots but only one forced Al-Hilal keeper Yassine Bounou into action.
Ronaldo was also caught offside three times and he was shown a yellow card in the 53rd minute for kicking the ball away in anger after a free-kick had been awarded to Al-Hilal.
Next up for Al Nassr and Ronaldo is the first leg of their AFC Champions League round of 16 clash with Al Feiha next Wednesday.
Al Nassr will then return to Saudi Pro League action three days later with a game against Al Fateh.
