Arsenal won away at Everton for the first time since 2017 on Sunday.

The Gunners - who had lost at Goodison Park on four of their previous five visits - secured all three points courtesy of a fine left-footed finish by Leandro Trossard midway through the second half.

Despite their narrow 1-0 margin of victory, Arsenal were significantly superior to the Toffees, who only registered one shot on target.

That shot, by Idrissa Gueye from long range in the first half, was easily saved by David Raya.

Raya, a summer loan signing from Brentford, was making his Arsenal debut, with England goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale demoted to the bench.

At the other end, Everton stopper Jordan Pickford made three saves to keep his team in contention.

Pickford was also beaten by Gabriel Martinelli but the Brazilian's 19th-minute strike was disallowed following a VAR review that found that Eddie Nketiah had been offside in the build-up.

Martinelli was substituted off five minutes later after sustaining a hamstring injury.

He was replaced by Trossard, who delivered the game's decisive moment in the 69th minute when he guided a first-time shot into the Everton net via the post following an assist by Bukayo Saka.

Earlier on Sunday, Chelsea drew 0-0 at Bournemouth.
